Pierce College

PierceOne Book One Campus has been gaining momentum this year. Many departments have incorporated the book into their curriculum. There was a film screening of He Named Me Malala with a UN panel discussion afterwards. There will be a screening of the documentary, A Path Appears, which deals with human trafficking and gender-based violence, which is a companion to the exhibit noted below. A concert is planned for Spring, with an original piece performed by the Pierce College Symphonic Concert Band that was inspired by Malala Yousafzai, entitled “Celebrations of the Human Spirit.”

In support of our book for the year, I am Malala, our Outreach librarian, Lisa Valdez, collaborated with the Art department to have the “Women Hold Up Half the Sky” exhibit, which was organized by the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
