CCL DEIAA Commitment Statement

The Council of Chief Librarians (CCL) commits to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Anti-Racism (DEIAA) by providing opportunities for communication, discussion, and collaboration among and for member libraries as we:

• Actively ensure the inclusion of diverse perspectives within our organization across–but not limited to–race, ethnicity, ability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, age, religion, language, and geography
• Actively recruit librarians and library administrators from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to serve on the CCL Board and CCL committees and workgroups.
• Acknowledge and dismantle library legacy systems of oppression by providing inclusive programming, resources, services, and training to include all library staff/communities. 
• Build relationships and foster consultation and collaboration with campus, district, state, and national stakeholders committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Develop strategies, policies, and procedures and statewide levels to improve library access and college success for all historically marginalized students and library users and support local efforts.
• Promote the acquisition of collections and resources that support diverse, inclusive, accessible, and anti-racist programs and curriculum that are reflective of the community at large while also committing to question and potentially refuse to contract with vendors whose products are substandard in reflecting and committing to DEIAA.
• Support libraries in providing inclusive and welcoming learning environments that are safe and accessible and ensure that all students and library users have equitable access to library materials and services.
• Foster, hire, and retain librarians and library staff from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
• Embed a DEIAA lens in the ongoing assessment of resources, policies, practices, and funding priorities. 
• Reinforce and defend library core values of intellectual curiosity, the freedom to read, privacy, and access to information in the face of political, social, and legislative attacks against DEIAA initiatives and libraries.
• Develop environmental justice practices to support library sustainability that are socially equitable, economically and environmentally sound, and address climate change.
• Acknowledge and recognize our libraries are located on the unceded land of Indigenous peoples and tribes across the state.
