  • Saturday, February 10, 2024, 11a - Banned Books & the Struggle to Preserve African American History (webinar), Social Responsibility Round Table (SRRT) of ALA: Join a discussion on the responsibilities of librarians in confronting book bans and promoting critical evaluations of U.S. history, as we preserve and honor African American history and struggles for civil rights and human rights. Most of the recent book challenges were regarding books written by or about a person of color or a member of the LGBTQIA+ community or both. 
     
  • Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 10-10:25a - Make the Most of your FAQ Groups (training), Springshare: Groups are the primary way of organizing your FAQs in LibAnswers. You can create groups for frequently asked questions about different departments, campuses, or services in your library.
     
  • Tuesday, February 13, 2024, 11a - What Can Online Learning Do For Students That Face-to-Face Learning Cannot? (webinar), Online Learning Consortium: Webinar will reveal the preliminary results of a qualitative study where online instructors with varying levels of experience in teaching online were asked to respond to the question, “How does online learning provide specific benefits to students that traditional classrooms don’t?” Benefits of online learning will be discussed, along with practical implications for students, faculty, and instructional designers.
     
  • Wednesday, February 14, 2024, 11a-12p - Digital Humanities and Emerging Technologies: Collaboration, Vision, and the Future (webinar), Association of Southeastern Research Libraries (ASERL): Examples of digital humanities research that uses augmented reality and other emerging technologies in unique domains for archival and visualization purposes.
     
  • Wednesday, February 14, 2024, 11a-12p - Cultivating and Sustaining the Relationship-Driven Library (webinar), Niche Academy: Cultivating and sustaining the relationship-driven library has four steps: 1) planting the seeds of partnership, 2) nurturing co-developed ideas, 3) harvesting and celebrating accomplishments, and 4) resting and preparing for future partnerships. 
     
  • Wednesday, February 14, 2024, 11a-12p - IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility Solutions) in the Library (webinar), American Library Association (ALA): Through principles of universal design and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), libraries can create and enhance access and accessibility for all patrons, including the one in four Americans who are labeled as having disabilities. Participants will learn about the foundations of accessibility and universal design principles in communication, programming, services, and marketing.

  • Secrets of the Super Searchers IV - Old School Wisdom, New School Tools for Difficult Questions (webinar), Federal Depository Library Program, recorded on November 16, 2023 (54 minutes): Webinar is suitable for people who are new to Government information, as well as individuals seeking a refresher. Participants will leave the session equipped with valuable search techniques for finding aids, a deeper understanding of common obstacles, and practical strategies to overcome them.
     
  • Warming Up Your Brain: The Most Important 5 Minutes Of Your Instruction Session (webinar), Lifelong Information Literacy (LILi), recorded on November 15, 2023: How do you help students get into an “academic mindset” when they enter your library instruction session? How can you be intentional in creating a space for students to focus in the present? Getting students into the right mindset for learning allows for more active participation and information intake on their part. Discussion offered around these culturally relevant teaching strategies and practice several styles of warm-ups.

Course

  • February 13-March 11, 2024: Self-Care for Library Staff: Understanding and Addressing Stress, Burnout, Vicarious Trauma, and Mental Health Challenges, InfoPeople: This four-week course will provide library staff with a better understanding of self-care, why it is so critical to their personal and vocational well-being, and tools to begin or improve their self-care journey. Participants will also learn about the risks of burnout and vicarious trauma, as well as strategies to create a personalized self-care plan to address potential mental health challenges related to or worsened by workplace stressors, such as depression and anxiety.
