Mentoring Opportunity

  • The CJCLS Mentoring Program Committee is accepting mentor applications for 2024-2025 (October 2024-June 2025) Mentoring Program, for experienced librarians who would like to share knowledge and insight about the profession with a colleague working at a community college or a current MLIS/MSLS graduate student. Mentors are not required to be CJCLS members. Training will take place between April and May 2024. For a more in-depth timeline please see the ACRL/CJCLS Mentoring Program LibGuide. Applications accepted until Friday, March 15, 2024.

  • Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 10a - Copyright Basics for Academia (webinar), Copyright Compliance Center: This program is intended to provide a quick, but in-depth look at important concerns surrounding the use of copyright-protected content within an academic environment.
     
  • Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 10-11a - Mastering the Digital Onslaught: Navigating Information Overload with Critical Ignoring (webinar), Lifelong Information Literacy (LILi): Introduction to the concept of critical ignoring and its implications for information literacy instruction and will explore how the integration of strategies can enhance information evaluation within the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, with practical insights and examples to help educators incorporate into their information literacy curriculum, resulting in more informed and resilient digital citizens.
     
  • Wednesday, March 20, 2024, 11a - Instruction Strategies to Support Neurodivergent Students (webinar), ACRL Instruction Section Teaching Methods Committee: Session to learn and recognize that neurodivergent students, and all students, have different learning needs.  Understand how to employ inclusive teaching strategies to support neurodivergent students.

  • Thursday, March 21, 2024, 12p - Introduction to Generative AI Tools (webinar), National NNLM: Attendees will learn about the specific capabilities and functionalities of leading generative AI tools like ChatGPT, Bard, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion and how they are transforming digital interactions.

Readers of previous emails may have noticed opportunities listed from “CALL” yet you may not know about this significant resource providing professional development and continuing education available to anyone currently working in a public, school, special, or academic library in California.

California Libraries Learn (CALL) is a collaborative project of the California Library Association and the California State Library that helps California library staff grow with their communities. 

  • The calendar is filled with a variety of learning opportunities.

  • CALL maintains a continuing education blog.

  • The CALL Academy is a self-paced platform with 800 self-paced modules to explore, available 24/7. Create a free account with your work email.

A huge bonus to CC librarians is cost savings: many of the opportunities in the CALL calendar are synchronous events that are offered through training providers to a limited number of registrants that would otherwise be a cost to you. Organizers request that, if you register, you attend (or cancel if needed) because there often are per-seat costs.
