The fall renewal period went more smoothly than I expected with the new procurement system (ConsortiaManager), and thanks to all of you for your patience as we are now fully live with this system. As the spring renewal period is just around the corner, I do want to remind everyone of two features of the new system:
What does your college get from that $150 CCL membership payment? Here are some but not all of the benefits:

Thanks to all of you for your patience with the new procurement system as we’ve rolled it out this fall. The good news is that the January renewals have been completed already – on time and ahead of schedule, actually. I have turned in all our orders and have even signed most of the license updates for next year’s subscriptions.

Not sure if I mentioned this before---Stephanie Curry (librarian at Reedley College) was elected at the Spring Plenary Session in April 2019 to serve as a North Representative on the ASCCC Executive Committee. Congratulations, Stephanie! And another thing that I forgot to mention earlier. At the Spring Plenary Session, Marie Boyd, our dear colleague who recently retired from Chaffey College, was honored with a resolution awarding her the status of Senator Emeritus. Congratulations, Marie!

I have been in discussions with Raul Arambula (Dean, Educational Services and Support) and Zitlali (Tali) Torres (Program Analyst, Educational Services and Support) in the Chancellor’s Office about setting up a meeting for the committee---hope for it to be in December 2019. I think we have heard from the constituent groups (including CCL, ASCCC, and ACTLA) about appointments to the committee.

Maybe you know this … but it’s almost 9 years since CCL first began discussing the idea of a shared ILS! We talked and talked and talked among ourselves until we felt the ground beginning to turn solid under this proposal (and ever-advancing technology and software capabilities contributed a lot to that!).

As of October, a new MOU between the Humboldt State University Library and College of the Redwoods allows students from CR to access books and other resources from HSU.

Over the summer, returning students discovered new study space options at Laney Library. With the purchase of new study furniture, the library was able to reconfigure space to better manage the needs of individuals and groups. In addition to creating a more pleasant study environment, librarians wanted to respond to some of the complaints that had come up in recent student surveys: not enough charging outlets, uncomfortable chairs, too noisy.

The Professional Development Working Group of the statewide LSP project welcomes feedback from our colleagues. We will be working closely with the other working groups to determine what sorts of activities and resources are needed, and what content should be covered. Whether you work in technical service, public service, library administration, or some other part of your community college library, we want to be able to address your training needs as we transition to Alma/Primo.

I hope everyone’s summer has gone well and you’re gearing up for the new academic year. At CCLC, we’ve been a bit busier than usual this summer, as we’ve been migrating three years of subscription data to ConsortiaManager, our new and improved procurement and business system. I’m writing today to introduce the rollout of this new system.
Wow … caught your breath yet? Someday, we’ll all look back and …. Well, who am I kidding, we’ll all be too busy shaping Ex Libris into the tool to take us to the next great level of student learning and success!
I do want to call your attention to one small piece of CCL business – yes, this year’s CCL membership invoice is hitting the mailbox soon. No change in cost: still $150.00.

As all the “countdowns” proceed
countdown to the end of this part of the LSP project (whew!), or countdown to the end of the term (hello, summer adventure!), or countdown to the finalization of a hiring process that will bring someone new onto the team (hurray!)CCL is tracking its own countdown as the last few membership checks come in through the mail slot before colleges & districts stop for the year.
